Blues 3-0 Oxford University (25-13, 25-20, 25-22)
Manor Community College, 24/01/2007
Oxford would arrive at Cambridge with the Light Blues eager to continue their winning BUSA campaign. After being denied the chance to play the week before, the home side was hungry for victory, and Jacquet would take no pity on a rebuilding Oxford squad, sending out his starting seven of Li setting opposite Sarkozy, Meeder and Neher blocking through the middle, Chalupnik and Niederste-Ostholt on the outside, and Finely in resplendent white as libero.
The first set started well for Cambridge, with their hitters simply overpowering the Oxford defense. Strong service pressure rarely allowed any sort of attacking options for the Dark Side, and Cambridge would be dominant in transition, ruthlessly exploitng Oxford weaknesses. The set closed out to 13 points.
Cambridge would continue their barrage into the second set, and quicky developed a large lead. However, the pass, which did not reach the normal levels of accuracy normally set out for, combined with several failed combination plays and shoots to let Oxford back into the game. After a timeout, a well executed cross by Sarkozy and a crushing hammer from Chalupnik set the Light Blues back onto their winning ways, and Li confidantly distributed the remainder of the set.
The third set would see more of the same, with Cambridge developing a solid lead. Substitutions near the end of the match would provide a small scare for the home side, but solid put aways by Chalupnik ended any hopes of a Dark Side comeback, and Cambridge complete the BUSA sweep, 6 sets to nil against their oldest rivals.
MVP goes to Marek Chalupnik.
