Blues 3-0 Warwick University (25-16, 25-20, 25-21)
Linton Village College, 19/11/2003
Managing to reschedule this match at Linton, the Blues made the trek out to the south Cambridge countryside to face Warwick. Setters Mary Chlouveraki and Joyce Wu, libero Cynthia Lim, utility Wendy Tsang Man Pun, middles Sarah Payne, Fiona Danks and Dani Maggiorano, and outsides Uta Wieland, Laura Diaz-Anadon, Candice Baseden and Jill Aitken were in attendance.
The match started in good style for the Blues with a perfect pass coming off the Warwick serve, allowing Mary to set a good metre ball for Sarah to kill with power. With both teams adapting to the constrained conditions in the sport hall, Cambridge were always looking the stronger. Good middle sets from both setters were getting Fiona and Sarah into the action, but little distribution to the outside was frustrating the left-side hitters. Set two followed the same route with Fiona having a strong run of service. However the accuracy of the Cambridge game was slowly diminishing and the pass and setting suffered. Even though the quality of the match was waning by the end of the third set, some tough serves from Wendy and better covered ensured a 3-0 Blues victory.
MVP Fiona Danks
