Blues 2-1 University of East Anglia (25-19, 18-25, 15-8)
Leeds Uni, 14/02/2004
Without the passing skills of libero Cynthia, who was still travelling to Leeds during the first match of the day, the Blues team struggled a little bit more than was necessary to win their first victory of the tournament against qualifiers UEA. Seemingly of to a good start, Wendy aced her first serve to put Cambridge ahead. However, a soft UEA attack and a lethargic-looking Blues team made the set close. Introducing Karolina and Mary into the match for set two showed an initial improvement in the team but later poor setting from a bad pass allowed UEA back in, picking up points with Cambridge errors. Into a third set the Cambridge team discovered the urgency of the situation and good passing and cover from Jill resulted in Dani being set balls that she could kill. A long consistent serve run from Cinzia was only foiled by a second time-out, but the Blues had already done enough to secure the match.
