Blues 2-0 Loughborough University II (25-14, 25-15)
Leeds Met, 15/02/2004
Looking to end the tournament on a high note, rather than a scrappy error-prone match, the Blues faced up against Loughborough 2 for their final match. From the start the Cambridge team looked more confident and relaxed. Happily (most) serves were going into the opponents court and most Loughborough attacks were being wailed out of ours. The team cover was much better, Joyce and Wendy covering behind the block and into the mid-court well. Strong attack from Jill and Dani from Joyce?s sets were not being controlled by the opponents and were ending up in the netting or being dug back over for another Cambridge attack. With high confidence in service many aces were coming towards the end of the set and continued into the second. Low deep serve was putting the Loughborough receive into a quandary, especially runs from Jill and Dani. Uta and Dani were also hitting well through the middle to complement good distribution from both Mary and Joyce to Wendy on reverse. A late reversion to good form, but a pleasing end-note for the tournament.
