Blues 1-2 University of Kent, Canterbury (25-21, 24-26, 8-15)
Leeds Uni, 13/02/2005
For the first match in the morning of the Finals sunday, Cambridge found themselves in the small halls with the ridiculous serve-step-in rule. Set 1 went well, the serve-receive dealing well with the Kent serve, Helen killing with out through 4 over the short block. The tide started to turn part way through the second set, Kent able to get a touch on the Cambridge attack and return the ball. The Kent attack was never hard, but usually effectively placed. Cambridge errors crept in and serve become poor. Changes in the lineup to improve passing helped, but Kent squeaked home. The final set became a good spectacle, both teams battling long rallies for the side-outs. Eventually the Cambridge team succumbed, by way of a greater error rate.
