Blues 3-1 Edinburgh University (15-25, 25-15, 25-15, 25-23)
(set scores not all accurate)
For the quarter-final stage of the BUCS trophy Cambridge were drawn away to Edinburgh. Six players made a day of it and flew north (cheaper than the train!) for the match; Alex, Flo, Marija, Silvia, Anna and Caroline.
The Edinburgh team were much stronger than expected, and Cambridge lost confidence in the first set to go 12 points down. The Blues managed to get the pressure back through good serves, so that although they lost the set they knew that with a good start they would have been ahead on points. For the second set the Cambridge team went onto court as if they had won, and this time Edinburgh lost confidence to allow the visitors to take the second and third sets. There was a real desire to win in the team, which was great to see! We hadn't gone all the way to Edinburgh for nothing, and we all very much wanted to go to the finals.
At the end of the fourth set Flo took the serve as Cambridge were losing 20-23 and she knew that she couldn't afford to give them a point. A consistent run of serves later and the Blues took the match at 25-23.
MVP was Florence
