Blues 3-0 Newcastle University (25-23, 25-14, 25-19)
Kelsey Kerridge, 11/02/2009
Cambridge only managed to get six players out for this quarter-final match against Newcastle, but were able to line up at least 3 of their starting six to ensure a stronger performance. Florence stood in as captain for the injured Alex and was solo setter, with Saz making a debut as opposite. Sarah and Rebecca took the middle spots and Caroline and Silvia were on the outside. The match started with both teams looking shaky, and Newcastle getting the better of the points from the struggling Cambridge passing unit. However, some serve aces from Florence got the Blues back into contention and they managed to hold on at the end of the set as the Newcastle skills crumbled. With a switch of Saz to outside in the second set the serve-receive was improved, and allowed Flo to set to the middles who were making headway against the Newcastle block. The occasional bad pass marred a good Cambridge performance in the end of the match and what was eventually a comfortable win.
MVP was Florence
