BUCS Championship Qualification Match

Blues 0-3 Birmingham University (22-25, 23-25, 15-25)
Manor Community College, 12/11/2008

The women's Blues knew that they had a tough match with Birmingham to make a potential BUCS playoff league position and stay out of the relegation danger-zone. However, with key players available and a home venue advantage, the team were confident that they could win the match. The starters were Alex (capt) and Florence setting, Rebecca and Sarah in the middle and Saz and Silvia on the left-side. The Blues made a good start in the first set, with Saz passing well and making a number of attack points. Although the Birmingham team werent making a lot of sideout kills, they were picking up the ball and serving better than the Cambridge side. A collapse at the end of the set resulted from very poor serve-receive, and prompted a change of setter as the ball was not effectively being delivered to the outside attack. The poor receiving continued into the second set and allowed Birmingham to take control, and Cambridge compounded their problems with a number of serve errors in the third set, giving Birmingham the match.

MVP - Saz
